Obituary: Joseph Anthony Maffongelli Jr.
Chief Joseph Anthony Maffongelli Jr. of Montclair died on Oct. 3, 2018.
Born on Nov. 3, 1944, the son of Joseph A. Maffongelli Sr. Doctor and Joy (Viviano) Maffongelli, atomic number 2 attended Lacordaire Academy, St. Cassian Grammar School, St. Ruth Fulton's Propaedeutic School and received a bachelor-at-arms's degree from Villanova University. After earning his doctor of jurisprudence arcdegree from Seton Hall University in 1969, he joined the law firm of Try Frank Brunetto and eventually took over the practice. Mr. Maffongelli was an attorney at law for almost 50 years, serving clients until the time of his last.
Equally a member of the American Bar Association and the Untried Jersey BAR Association Mister. Maffongelli was licensed to practice in New Jersey and New York. He was a member of the Montclair YMCA, the Bradford Bath and Tennis Club, the Mercier Club, served on the directorate of the YMCA and Lacordaire Honorary society, and was active in St. Cassian Church service in Montclair.
Atomic number 2 was predeceased by his parents and brother-relative-in-law Warren W. Umholtz.
Mr. Maffongelli is survived by his sis, Joan M. Umholtz of Tewksbury; his brother, Ralph and wife Alice Maffongelli of Sheboygan, WI; his niece Lynne (Maffongelli) Christopher and husband Jim of Boodle, IL; great-niece and nephew Anna and Andrew Saint Christopher; many cousins and his friend, Angel Cosgrove.
Visitation will be at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Ballpark St., Montclair, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, October. 12. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by The Rev. Marc Vicari, will follow at 10 a.m., at St. Cassian Christian church, 187 Bellevue Ave., Montclair.
